DR. SEUSS BIRTHDAY THEME
Let me tell you a story. When I was planning my son’s first birthday party I knew that I wanted to throw him a Dr. Seuss birthday party. He was absolutely in love with the Dr. Seuss baby board books. What I didn’t know was how hard it was going to be to plan this party.
When typing into google “Dr. Seuss Birthday Party” it brings up party supplies, and Pinterest ideas, but really no how-to guide. I even tried typing in Dr. Seuss Birthday Ideas, etc etc. You get the idea. Yes, I needed supplies, but I wanted examples. I wanted to know how to throw the best Dr. Seuss birthday party ever.
Eventually, I did it. I pieced together all the different things you would need for this specific type of birthday party. And let me tell you it was the bomb.

DR. SEUSS BIRTHDAY INVITATIONS
When it comes to birthday invitations, there are so many deciding factors that go into the perfect invitation. I chose to go the non-expensive route and send out Facebook invitations! Just by getting on Facebook and choosing a cute little Dr. Seuss pictures for the header, writing up a fun description, and only inviting close family and friends. Because let’s be honest all those invitations find their way to the trash anyway, so why spend the money?

Now, the second option is to purchase invitations and mail them out in advance to your family and friends. The best Dr. Seuss invitations that I found were from Etsy. Here is a list of different selections just for invitations
- Etsy has a huge selection of Dr. Seuss Invitations the choices almost seem endless
- Whereas on Amazon I was only able to find one Invitation style for Dr. Seuss
- The same can be said for Party City’s single Invitation style

Simple is Best: Think Color Theme of Red, White, and Blue

CUPS AND PLATES AND CUTLERY DR. SEUSS STYLE
When it comes to theme and all the eatery, you want it to be known what the theme is. When I was putting together my son’s birthday party, I was adamant about using all Dr. Seuss Cups and Plates….that was until I saw the price all added up for every single person that was coming.
My brain went YIKES. I decided, in the end, to get only enough Dr. Seuss Cups/Plates/Napkins, etc. for only the kiddos. Whereas all the adults got just red, and blue paper plates. And red and blue paper cups!

DR. SEUSS BIRTHDAY CAKE
You would think finding someone to make a Dr. Seuss cake would be easy right? To my surprise finding a cake was probably the hardest part. Wal-mart was a no go, Price Chopper, Hyvee none of them made anything Dr. Seuss Related. They would tell me that I could buy a sheet cake and get one of those edible images to lay on the cake.
I had to reach out to bakeries and cake companies due to this. I finally decided on the cake design above, along with little Dr. Seuss Hat Cupcakes! I was happy with how they turned out. “HIP HIP HOORAY IT’S RONALD’S FIRST BIRTHDAY”
If you are crafty maybe you can make your own Dr. Seuss Cake at Home?
DR SEUSS FOOD AND DRINK IDEAS
With some red solo cups and a printer, making some Hop On Pop Popcorn has never been easier! Cute yet simple! Keep in mind popcorn can be a choking hazard. You can simply do Puffcorn instead! (Buy Puffcorn from your local store and not on Amazon to save $$ )
We have all heard “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish!” This is simple yet super cute!
Multicolored Goldfish, in a fishbowl! Love the sign that was made for this! But if you don’t have a printer available you can always use the Dr. Seuss books themselves as the signage! #drseussbooksforthewin
“Green Eggs and Ham are really good”
With just a little bit of food coloring added to your deviled eggs you could make your own green eggs!
Cat in the Hat Kabobs!
➳ PINK INK DRINK – SAY WHHHAAAT ➳
With a beverage dispenser, you can make pink lemonade and name it the “Pink Ink Drink”
DR. SEUSS PARTY FAVORS FOR ALL THE LITTLES
First things first when it comes to get party favors for the guests you will need to decide if you are going to be only doing those party favors for the kids OR are you going to do favors for the adults too? – Let it be known I only did it for the kids. . lol
After you decide you will want to find little baggies for the favors!
WHAT DO YOU PUT IN THE PARTY FAVOR BAGS?? – SOME IDEAS
- Tiny Dr. Seuss Coloring Books or memo pads with crayons
- Dr. Seuss Stickers
- Dr. Seuss Medals
- Bubbles – because what kid doesn’t love bubbles???
- Party Hats
DR. SEUSS FAMILY ASSEMBLE – SHIRTS AND CUTE HEADBANDS
There are so many options on Etsy for Dr. Seuss Theme Shirts for family. And having the family shirts just bring the whole Dr. Seuss Birthday Party Theme come together. There are also some really cute Dr. Seuss bows and headbands! – My son would not keep his little Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat Headband on at all!
DR. SEUSS PHOTO BOOTH
Throwing a Dr. Seuss Birthday party would not be complete without a little Photo Booth! You need an iPod with a tripod set up and voila! Oh, and the props and backdrop (optional) to go with!
We had a little portable printer hooked up, and after every photo, two photos would automatically print! One photo was for the guests to take home and the other photo we created a memory book out of. People would glue the photo in the memory book and write a little “Happy Birthday” note next to the photo.
AND THAT’S HOW YOU THROW A DR. SEUSS BIRTHDAY PARTY
