I Am Stressed Out.

Being stressed out, I feel like screaming. My thoughts are overwhelming me. I do not know what to accomplish first. Being Stressed out is one of the worst feelings in the world. I know that when I get stressed out, it feels like nothing will get better. I even try to avoid my issues hoping that they will sort themselves out. Trust me, it is not going to happen. Only in your dreams. Here are 13 Truths About Being Stressed Out.

#1 Stress Can Wreak Havoc On Your Body

If you stay stressed for a long period of time, your body will take a beating. This is all due to hormones raging within your body. Now I could dive into the nitty-gritty of that, but If you are really interested I’d just research that here. In all seriousness, though you could develop some severe health problems. Heart disease, sleep disorders, and obesity are just a few off the top of my head.

#2 Depression

Stress can lead to depression, and depression can lead to stress. Money problems as an example (because it’s the easiest example) does not just go away just because you wish it away. So, there you are stressing about making ends meet. Not knowing if you can. Which can then lead to depression. Or you are depressed, and let some of your financial ends slip through your grasp which causes stress. *sigh*

If this cycle goes on forever, feelings of hopelessness can take over. I am not saying that stress or depression is an easy thing. It can make or break you, but the choice is up to you. Truth.

#3 Anxiety

When I started going to therapy I was diagnosed with social anxiety. Which if I told some of my friends this they would laugh because I am the outgoing one. I am the girl that loves to talk, but what they did not know is that I would think of a situation before I even was in the situation. I’d agonize over scenarios that were not even real. Anxiety can cause stress.

This is not a life you want to live.

#4 My Brain is Melting

I don’t know about you, but when I am stressed my brain feels like mush. I have so much going on, I sometimes can’t come up with a coherent sentence. My favourite analogy is about being on a browser and you have a gazillion tabs open. So when you are trying to find something in one of the tabs, your brain freezes a bit. Your brain is buffering, trying to keep up, but there is so much going on that it is having a hard time processing.

#5 Tired All The Time

When you are stressed out your mind feels tired all the time because it is constantly trying to figure out a problem. Your brain is in overdrive trying to come up with a solution. The worst is when you want to sleep, but you can’t because your brain won’t turn off. When this happens the best thing I can suggest is headspace. Headspace is this app you can download onto your phone or tablet that will guide you in meditation. Headspace was life changing for me.

#6 Stressed and Don’t Feel Like Doing Anything

There is a difference from being tired and not feeling like doing anything. There is a reason for that. This is usually when you are trying to ignore your responsibilities and push aside your issues. You are wanting to do the bare minmal. Sound familiar? Power through if you can, do the bare necessities. Your Mental Health Is Important. Shower, eat, get rest. Push through, you got this!

#7 Irritable

Irritability comes with the territory. You are on edge. You are fighting the fight of your life. Sleep helps with this if you are able to. Another suggestion I have is to write it out, journal all your negative emotions. You need an outlet, try not to let that be your spouse/significant other/pet.

#8 Sick More! *Cough*

Remember how I said that stress can wreak havoc on your body? Well your immune system takes a hit the longer it is under stress. If your immune system is not up to par it is not going to be able to fight off those pesky germs like it used to. This can in turn cause you to be sick more.

#9 Reaching for Comfort Food More Often?

Stress can make you reach for comfort foods more than what your body actually needs. Your body needs fruits and vegetables, but it wants carbs/sugar/fat. When I am stressed I want cosmic brownies, Fire Hot Cheetos, lots of coffee because It makes me happy, content.

#10 Decreased Sex Drive

Sex just sounds like work when you are stressed out. On the other hand if you can get in the mood it is also a good stress reliever. Getting in the mood can be the hard part though, sometimes you have to just get in there and do it!

#11 Sore Muscles

Tension builds in your muscles when you are stressed. You feel it the most in your shoulders and back. I recommend taking a hot bath with Epsom salt.

Now if you have someone that can give you a massage, ask them to give your muscles a little loving. If you can afford it go get pampered. You don’t have to go get an hour massage that cost $200. Go to your local nail salon, get a manicure or pedicure. Most manicures come with a hand massage, and pedicures foot massage.

#12 Eating Problems

You either eat too much, or not enough. It feels like there is no in between. Make sure to try to eat 3 balanced meals a day with small snacks in between. Your body will love you for it!

#13 Being Stressed Out Does Not Last Forever

Every part of your life is a phase that will soon be over. I have had my fair share of stress in life. Divorce, nursing school, death of a parent. I could go on and on, but I don’t dwell on the past much anymore. I focus on the present. That is my secret to staying stress free as much as possible.

These 13 Truths to being stressed out are outlined to help educate individials on why it is not in your best interest to be stressed out. Lets work together on ways to decrease the stress in your life.
